Recently, the annual list of the 2022 Nature Index was released, showing the high-quality scientific research output of different countries and research institutions in the field of natural sciences. In the Nature Index's list of institutions, the University of Science and Technology of China in Hefei ranks ninth, jumping two places from last year.

In the Nature Index's list of institutions, four Chinese institutions of higher learning entered the global top 10, namely the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the University of Science and Technology of China and Peking University. Among them, the Chinese Academy of Sciences has ranked first in the world for ten consecutive years. The University of Science and Technology of China in Hefei jumped two places from last year to rank ninth.

In recent years, HKUST has continuously produced major scientific research achievements, and the relevant achievements have frequently been published in top international academic journals. On February 10 this year, the international top academic journal "Nature" is "one breath" at the same time published the important progress made by the University of Science and Technology of China team in the cage structure superconductor, quantum simulation based on ultra-cold atoms and molecules, and protein design. It is rare for three papers from the same university to be published by Nature at the same time, and on February 4, another top scientific journal in the world, Science, also published a major breakthrough made by China University of Science and Technology in quantum simulation, and only 10 days after the beginning of the year of the Tiger, China University of Science and Technology had four results successively published in top scientific journals.

The Nature Index is a database that includes the information of the author's unit and institutional relationship. Relying on 82 natural science journals such as Nature, Science, and Cell, it calculates the number of papers published by universities, research institutes (countries) in the most influential research-oriented academic journals in the world. Institutions can be ranked and indexed according to the number and type of papers published. At present, the Nature Index has become an internationally recognized indicator of the quality of research output and cooperation between institutions, countries and regions in the natural sciences.
